About the event
Losar is the term for the Tibetan New year celebrated in total for 15 days, with the main celebrations on the first three days. Â Losar is the beginning of a new lunar year that are celebrated by the ancient Tibetan bon traditions (before Buddhism). Instead of drinking champagne to celebrate, we learn to perform a rituals of gratitude. We are invited to make offerings to the nagas, the water spirits who activated the water element in the area. We can make smoke offerings (insence or fire) to the local spirits associated with the natural world around us. Beliefs and behaviors such as these evolved long ago and are often seen as primitive in the West. But they are not only projections of human fears onto the natural world, the way in which we relate to the elements originated in the direct experiences by our sages and common people of the sacred nature of the external and internal elements. We call these elements earth, water, fire, air, and space.
This event will contain ritual, prayers and mantras from the Buddha Dharma Texts and will only require your attendance through meditation and relaxation. Â You will not actively take part in any way, but rather just listen, observe and receive these very powerful blessings to help clear obstacles in your path and find peace and healing.
